Location Location Location. You can walk to the beach. That overrides the toilet not working when we got there, the air conditioner that you can't control...it's either on full blast or off, and tight parking quarters. In all honestly the rooms aren't that bad. Are they amazing? No. Clean and Ok? Yes. Staff is friendly and helpful. We'd come back.

Pros: The beach is right across the street. We loved the Adirondack chairs out front, so relaxing. It's nice that they have indoor and outdoor pools. Good restaurants are within walking distance. It's a 30 minute walk to the city center, so you are close but not too close. Cons: The hotel bar/snack shop stops serving at 9:00PM. There isn't much soundproofing when people sit outside and talk loudly when you are trying to sleep. The rooms are clean but dated and could use an update.

I booked this hotel off season on Travel Zoo and think it's an acceptable place. We stayed in the main building. The room was dated but clean. The mattress was comfy and the mattress itself was clean. White bedding felt fresh. The bathroom was tiny but clean. Staff was friendly. Wi-fi service not so great. A modest but nice complimentary breakfast was included with the room. But what this hotel has going for it is that is is across the street from the beach and within walking distance of many things. The room pictures others have posted on Yelp are accurate but the pool pictures are not accurate. For a convenient/not fancy/not romantic place near the beach it's a-ok.

Four stars - yes, I'm a fan. I have traveled here a few times. It's is absolutely perfect if you are traveling with kids. I'm not sure of the exact name of the room that we book, but it has a small room off the main room with either one or two sets of bunk beds. This is always great for two reasons: extra space if you are traveling with extended family and it also gives you some much needed space especially when naps are necessary. The room was always clean when wet arrived. The location of this hotel can't be beat. You are right across the street from the beach. So less distance needs to be covered when lugging all the towels, coolers, chairs, and beach toys to the beach. The beach at York is beautiful - yes the water can be a bit chilly but what can you do? This hotel also offers two pools - one outdoor and one indoors. There is an area at the indoor pool when food and drinks can be purchased. Between the pools and the beach there is so much to do. Directly across the street is a small restaurant. We have eaten breakfast here, gotten lunch to take to the beach and also had ice cream at night. York is such a great place to travel to with some much going on. I would not hesitate to return here and would recommend it to anyone.

Biggest thing to take away from any reviews: Stay AWAY from the main building. Away. My hub and I visited this property a few weeks ago for his birthday- and we booked a suite in the detached building with a private pool and concierge floor. Worth it. The big building looks like a halfway house. This separate building for the suites is newer and clean- smells fresh and has private, garage parking. The only sucky thing about our stay is that we had the misfortune of being on the concierge floor (2nd) near the elevator- so everyone and their mom, and the housekeeping staff, was up in our business at the crack of dawn. Good thing I hit the vodka pretty hard the night before- otherwise the ruckus would have really been irritating. Huge suite, with a fantastic bathroom- glass shower and jacuzzi tub. The views are great and you have GOT to order from Anthony's if you want pizza or italian food. They deliver crazy fast- we had the rec from a front desk employee. All in all, a great trip!!!

Smelled bad, looked bad and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The other guests were running up and down the halls screaming the the other parents were not watching their children! The pool was dirty and the WiFi is terrible. It is so overpriced! You would be more comfortable sleeping in your car!

I've been staying at the Anchorage Inn for a few years now and always stay in their Oceansuites building. Although it is pricey for what you get (almost $500 a night for the first floor and $500+ for the second and third) the proximaty to the beach and the private pool for the suites building is what draws me back. This year though, will probably be my last. The suites building has become a free for all. You are supposed to wear a VIP bracelet to use the private pool and hot tub but we watched people walk straight from the beach, use the pool and return to the beach with no one asking to see a bracelet or asking if they were even staying there. The bracelets have become a joke, if you are going to give them out then you should require that people wear them. A 16 year old girl, isn't going to question people at the pool about whether or not they belong there. We also watched a man throw a full ice bucket full of ice from the third floor balcony onto a bunch of cars in the parking lot (he was trying to reach 3 women walking by but missed by a mile). There are kids running up and down the halls at all hours of the night. I talked to another guest who said she called the front desk to complain about the noise so it obviously wasn't just us complaining. It used to be a nice quiet little sanctuary there and instead of being a priority because of the $$ you are spending to be in there, it is an afterthought. Our room was cleaned the first day at 4pm, just when we were returning from the beach to relax and get ready for dinner. The pool was cleaned at 10 am after there were guests using it and they all had to get out while it was cleaned. They offer happy hour and serve complimentary beer and wine from 5-6 each day. Well, every day we went, the concierge person had to spend the whole time making hot chocolate for the 20 kids that were in there. Kids shouldn't be allowed where alcohol is being served #1 but if they are going to offer them a happy hour too it should be a half hour before or after the adult one. We just left, it wasn't worth the hassle. They offer continental breakfast (donuts and bagels) which was ok. All in all, I used to love staying there but after the money we spent this time and the realization that they are charging 5 star prices and giving you 3 star service I think I will research other options for next year.

Nice staff. Clean room. Great location. Affordable. At face value this place is a terrific value! Why the two stars then, you might ask? Because ultimately none of this matters if you can't get a good nights rest... I can't recall the last time I had such a terrible nights sleep in such a relaxing location. Two things contributed: 1.) The door to the room has large windows with blinds that you can open and close (the kind where you turn the rod left or right to open and close the blinds). This is a major problem because no matter what you do your room gets flooded with light. Overnight from the lights that are on in the parking lot and first thing in the morning when the sun comes up. Not to mention if a car pulls in at any hour of the night if you are on the first floor (my wife and I were). They really need a way to block out all light getting into the room or it feels like the lights are always on. 2.) The walls above the room and to the sides are paper thin. You can hear loud BANG BANG BANG when people walk around in the room above. Even more concerning, you can clearly hear conversations that people are having above you or on either side. It just feels like there is very little privacy and if your neighbors are up late you will be too (I'm not taking yelling or screaming, you can hear normal talking). The first problem seems easy enough to fix (add a shade) but the second I'm not so sure. I have to assume that's just how the building was constructed and it would need a major overhaul to add some more insulation/sound deadening material. I've heard good things about their new addition building, but I have to agree with another Yelper, avoid the main building. Nothing about this place matters if you can't sleep at night. My wife and I felt like zombies the next morning.

Clean pool close to beach. The Atrium building is separate from the main building but has a pool in the center atrium, with the rooms surrounding it. Basic but clean and fairly new rooms in the Atrium building. The main building is more "motel" like with the room doors are the outside doors. This is not my favorite situation in most places, but this is the beach so I can deal with it. Atrium: Newer, some views, indoor pool just outside your door. Hotel style rooms. Main: Older, better views on higher floors, motel style rooms, indoor pool across in the lobby building. Right across from the beach so it is great for surfers when the weather is cold.

Unexpectedly had to check into a hotel for a couple nights after burst pipes at home.Glad we picked the Anchorage. They were very accommodating and kind. The room was spotless and very comfortable. Would recommend this hotel whole heartedly!

oh well! the other review seems to object to people being people(smoking drinking)and is not happy with others behavior not being curtailed...motel owners have yet to be empowered with police powers for arrest upon swimming in the wrong pool or smoking in the wrong place. That being said: The staff try hard but upper management would rather some rooms dont get cleaned quick enough while others do not get cleaned at all rather than hire extra staff and chance not being busy enough to justify extra expense. I thought a healthy tip to housecleaning the first day would make certain of a clean room perhaps before 3pm??NOPE next day we were skipped totally... TOO many rooms TOO many guests for the facilities to handle and the result??? small crowded pool 24-7..small crowded parking..if a constant noise from unruly kids and quite a bit of boisterous partying is not for you dont go here...otherwise the kids play and the adults play and all is well.My main problem was the WI-FI is near non existent. Keep in touch with work??? not gonna happen..either by cell phone or laptop. Had we known we would have made other plans for coverage at work(wife is a nurse)When emergencies arose at work and my wife was told to"please come back early" staff refused any kind of refund despite being busy every night. maybe this is SOP for hotels??? anyway the beach is across the street and when we could get the room cleaned it was okay...somehow I dont think they get much repeat business..

Place was clean enough, and it's right across from the beach. But most of the problems come from the fact that the others guests here are able to do whatever they want without any word from the staff.... - Smoking: while the rooms are non-smoking, smokers seem to congregate here and just hang out on the balconies and smoke. This means that your room will fill with smoke. - Drinking: This seems to be a popular place for alcoholics. They get really hot, so they might just open windows in the pool room that were not supposed to be opened, run radios late into the night, and let their awful kids treat the place like crap.

The Anchorage Motor Inn served its purpose well. It was the base of operations for the family and friends of our good friends that were recently married in York Beach, ME. The rooms are showing some age, but it seems like they updated the beds, the linens, and the TVs (they also have great and easy wireless internet access), so you are comfortable when you are doing the most basic thing you rent a room for...sleep. The main complaint here is that you hear anyone and everyone that is walking by the room, whether they are on your floor or on the floor below. Luckily I was sleeping off a night of drinking and quickly fell back asleep. From it's convenient location, the beach is but a stone's throw away, and there are restaurants and surf shops within an easy walk. If you fear the bitter cold of the North Atlantic, you will find comfort in the clean indoor pool area and the adjacent hot tub. I hear the road is extremely busy during the summer months, so I'm glad the wedding was when it was...early May. The Anchorage Motor Inn is an easy recommendation for anyone that is heading to this area. 3.5 stars rounded down because we were there in low season.

I'll start by saying we stayed here on a weekend that most of the hotel was taken over by guests of a wedding taking place in town that weekend. The first night the people above us were up several times to use the bathroom, I know this because I could hear their every move. The second night was the night of the wedding and the "after party" was at the hotel, so the place was alive well after midnight with drunken wedding guests. Ugh...again, not a place to go if you're looking for a quiet night sleep, you hear everything your neighbors do! The plus (and there was a plus!) was that during the day when our younger daughter was taking a nap, you could open the door and window and hear the waves crashing from across the street. We also had a "semi-ocean view" and could see the lighthouse from our room, which was nice. Perhaps we would have had a different experience if not for the hundred drunk people hanging out in the parking lot outside our room...just bad timing I guess. Also, the room needs major updating. They had old "tube style" tvs...the wallpaper was peeling in a lot of the room and the carpeting needs to be torn up...yuc!

For the privewe paid for the room you think that there would have been some renovations done. Nope.... still the same old rusty suspended ceiling tiles. No soap or shampoo in the shower, the place is worn and in need of a serious overhaul. The pools are GROSS. yellowed and stained, its just gross. For your money... stay at a nicer place in York.

The rooms in the original building definitely are showing there age and yes you can hear people walking on the floor/rooms above...but the overall experience was great. The pools, hot tubs, etc are wonderful and the staff was excellent. I would return!

This is a perfectly adequate family vacation lodging. Since I was there on my own and wanted a peaceful ocean getaway, I was disappointed, but that's not the motel's fault. The view was nice but I couldn't open the windows to listen to the surf. And with the room door opening directly to the balcony, leaving it open left me in full view of everyone walking by. On the plus side, it was a short walk to the beach and a nice fish restaurant across the street.

This is a great place to stay for convenience sake. No other hotel/motel/inn on York Beach seemed to offer this much convenience in its location. The drawbacks were the very small rooms, even though ours was in a fabulous spot, and the false advertising of the pool usage. We did have use of the great outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, indoor pool, and indoor hot tub, but we weren't supposed to use the lap pool in the Atrium building if we were staying in the main building. This was extremely disappointing to my 11-yr-old daughter!! This info should be listed in their brochure and on their website. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Where do I begin? My husband and I have been married for 25 years and literally work 7 days a week, having a weekend off is not an option for us with our jobs. This was our first day off since November. We booked the room for a Monday, normally we go up to Portland Maine, but hubby had a business meeting at noon on the next day, so we figured we would look for a place closer to home. I did some looking on line and found the Anchorage, the price was good and it was directly across the street from the ocean so we thought we would give it a try. We arrived and as I checked in I was greeted by my first name because the man saw my car plates from Massachusetts and he said there were only 6 people checking in so it was easy to figure who I was. He then went into what we were not allowed to do, reading each thing out loud and making me initial each item "that could get us thrown out"....really? (my husband and I are late 50's, no we are not going to have loud parties or bring animals into the room and we don't smoke. We had a room in the Atrium, on the 3rd floor since we had seen the reviews that the higher floor the less noise, (having a 2" gap at the base of our door certainly isn't keeping noise out if they are busy), it was the very front room facing the ocean. The state of the room was nothing as it was represented on the web site, but we agreed we would overlook the huge cracks in the walls, the paint chipped table, the huge gap under the door and hope for the best. We opened a bottle of champagne and then turned the heat up in the room, it was pretty chilly in there. It was quickly clear the heat wasn't working, so we tried to call the front desk, no dial tone. Did a little checking and the phone wasn't even plugged in. We fixed that and called the front desk about the heat, he said they would send someone up. The maintenance man arrived and tried to turn the heat up, took the cover off the heater unit, (even if it did run it was filthy, not what I want being blown into the air!) and after some time fiddling with it discovered it had no power doing to it. He fixed that and boy, was it loud! Once he put the cover back on it was much worse and he said we would never get any sleep with that noise, he would just leave the cover off since the clatter was better with it off! We really weren't ok with that, we didn't need a heater unit cover leaned against the wall and a dirty unit to look at. In the mean time, I had gone on line and found another hotel in Portsmouth that we had stayed at before and we just wanted to have the room charge reversed and check out. The front desk was not having any of that, we could check out but they would not be reversing the charges. The maintenance man came back with another person (his boss???), who they both agreed the noise from the heater was unacceptable. They told us they were going to replace the entire heating unit and if when they were done it was still loud they would have us change rooms. We said we didn't come up to Maine to watch 2 guys change a heating unit, they assured us WE wouldn't be in THEIR way! They said it would take them at least a couple of hours, we could tell we were stuck there so we got our jackets and left to drive around, see some sights and find a place to eat. Keep in mind, this is a big place and they only had 6 people checking in, plenty of other rooms to move us to. As a business owner I would have at this point moved a couple to the best room I had to make up for everything and try to gain a customer, but customer service was not high on their priority list. We came back to a new heater that a least worked, The next morning the same man who checked us in was the same person to check us out,he didn't even ask how our stay was, no apology, no discount, just a quick "have a safe drive home".

The best part of this place is the location, by far. The rooms are old but decently maintained. Some cracked tiles and tilted floors, hard beds, but all in all clean and functional. They have parking, which is actually very important in a beach town, and all the real touristy areas are easily accessible. They also have indoor and outdoor pools for bad weather days. The only part that made the trip miserable was the super thin walls. Thankfully, we were on the second floor on the end of the building, so really only had one neighbor. However, that neighbor was a group of drunken screaming elephants apparently that stayed up until 2AM and got back up promptly at 7AM. In all fairness, we could hear their normal conversation through the walls, so it wasn't too far of a jump for drunken conversations to get out of line. I would go back, but I would also bring ear plugs!

Parking was very difficult for the guests. The rooms and shower looked like a motel. It was over price. Personnel were nice and charming and hot tub was of good size.

Looking at the pictures on the websites and brochure, I thought my wife and I were in for a great weekend. We stayed two nights and we'll never stay a minute longer. Let me first start by saying, when we called to make a reservation we were told that all the suites and beach front views were booked. When we had problems with our room suddenly suites and beach front views came available. The condition of our room was clean but has not been update since at least the Early 80's. But I could deal the lack of updates as long as it was clean. However, the mildew on the bottom of the bath tub began to make me realize it was just surf clean. Our room also lacked enough water pressure and hot water in order to produce a decent shower. I was told by the staff it was because they had a lot of guests. Then I attempted to get out of the bathroom and realized that door was stuck because someone had not hung the door properly. Finally, the staff - housekeeping crew did a good job cleaning our room but that was only after her knocking on every door starting at 930am when check out was not until 11am. Front desk - after we checked in I explained that we were on a mini honeymoon and wanted to see if there were Beach front/suites available because we were by family with kids and were having these problems with the room. They explained no that nothing was available but when I complained and wanted out of their Inn. The final straw for me was when the general manager told me she would gladly upgrade me to one of these suites only if I paid the difference!
